CONTINUOUS CARE, FROM ASSESSMENT TO TREATMENT

Your first visit begins with a thorough, one hour long evaluation of your child. During this visit, Joanne will investigate your areas of concern, and  she may identify areas in your child that require her professional  support.  In a child-friendly  manner, Joanne will use formal tools whenever possible, and informal methods to obtain information about your child. Joanne will give you a written, summary report within a few days of the initial visit.  If  other healthcare professionals, such as an Audiologist or Developmental Paediatrician, are deemed necessary in your child's care, Joanne will highlight that to you at this visit.

Therapy sessions with a pediatric SLP in Toronto are 45 minutes long. Your child's therapy goals will be based on the findings from their assessment by a speech language pathologist in Toronto, and they can also be personalized to incorporate what is important to you. These therapy goals will be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and anchored within a time frame so that your child's progress can be tracked over time. You will be invited to observe and encouraged to participate along with your child in sessions, allowing you to witness your child's improvement as it unfolds across sessions and generalizes into their daily functioning and social interactions.

The recommended number of therapy sessions for your child is contingent on several factors, such as your child's areas of need, and levels of complexity and severity. An estimation of your time commitment can be discussed with you at the initial assessment and when therapy begins.

Joanne, a speech and language therapist in Toronto, will offer you a flexible plan of action that is beneficial to your child and considers your schedule, time commitment, and budget, ensuring the best approach based on  CASLPO's and Dalhousie University's  and the University of Toronto's Speech-Language Pathology Master's degree programs' standards.
